Maggie has had some breakthroughs in the last few days. First, she had her preschool Christmas program. Wiley and I were taking bets on what the scenario would like: a) she would refuse to go on stage.....b) she would bawl the minute she spotted me.....c) she would be a runner (you know, those kids who take off screaming to their parents!). Well, she was none of the above! She sat in her seat on stage, found me, waved a lot and then sat their staring down at the floor a majority of the time. She did mouth a few words to the songs, especially Rudolph, her favorite. We were so impressed. Who are we to doubt her??? Although, the minute it was over and she received her candy from her teachers, she sprinted down the aisle to us.
The other breakthrough: I have been dreading taking her to see Santa but decided to go ahead with it today. We went to the mall and what did the little shy girl do? Why, she hopped right up on his lap (practically taking out the kids before her) and proceeded to chat up a storm with him. She informed him of her wants this year, a baby doll and a dollhouse, and then she gave her fake smile for the picture, took her candy cane from him and hopped down! Very impressive. Last year, she would have flipped her lid if I would have made her visit Santa.
Here is a pic of her having a ball opening her gifts from Mommy and Daddy the other night. We had Christmas a little early due to Wiley's daily schedule and so we didn't have to lug more stuff to Oklahoma. Isn't the sheer joy on the face of a child precious!
Now for the rest of us.......we are frantically packing for our 2 1/2 week trip back to Oklahoma. Of course, I made fun of Wiley all evening for packing like a girl. I swear, he will pack more clothes than Maggie and I combined! I am not looking forward to the drive as the bigger I get, the more uncomfortable sitting, standing, laying...well, it all just gets annoyingly uncomfortable! We are breaking the trip up and stopping in Louisiana one evening and then on to Wiley's brother's house in Dallas. We are also stopping in OKC on Sunday to eat at Ted's and then some much needed girls only time for me with my girlfriends at Penn Square. Then, we are off to the whirlwind of festivities in Blackwell. I love the holidays but can't stop wondering when they will become a little more relaxing and not so hectic. Probably never!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
